The Vineyard

The vines, the range and a look around the vineyard near Eccleshall.

The story of Grove Estate began long before the vineyard carried its current name. Following the redevelopment of Lower Heamies Farm into barn conversions in 2009, Shire Barn was sold with an adjoining acre of south-facing land, ideally suited to growing fruit.

With advice and guidance from Halfpenny Green Vineyard in South Staffordshire, the original owners established the vineyard in 2010, planting 1,000 vines across three varieties and creating the foundations of what would become Grove Estate.

As with all vineyards, patience was required. The vines were allowed to mature before their first meaningful harvest, with the first vintage suitable for winemaking produced in 2013.

The vineyard remained a passion project for its original owners, with wines shared among family and friends rather than produced on a commercial scale.

In May 2015, Liz and Rob Grove purchased Shire Barn and, despite having no previous experience in viticulture, decided to continue the vineyard's journey. The vineyard was renamed Grove Estate in 2016 and incorporated as Grove Estate (Wine) Limited later that year.

Since then, the vineyard has continued to develop as the vines have matured, with yields increasing year after year and the quality of the wines gaining growing recognition. Today, Grove Estate remains committed to producing wines that reflect both the character of the vineyard and the landscape of rural Staffordshire.

Get involved

Come to the Harvest

Harvest is one of the most important and rewarding times of the year at Grove Estate. Each autumn, typically during September or October, the grapes are picked entirely by hand with the help of family, friends, and volunteers from the local community.

Once harvested, the fruit is transported to Halfpenny Green Vineyard, where the grapes are carefully processed and the winemaking journey begins. Their expertise and support have played an important role in helping us transform each year's harvest into finished bottles of Grove Estate wine.

Harvest days are a wonderful opportunity to experience life in the vineyard, meet fellow wine enthusiasts, and play a part in the production of our wines. If you would like to get involved and experience a grape harvest first-hand, we would love to hear from you.

As a small thank you, all volunteers are treated to a light breakfast and receive a complimentary bottle of Grove Estate wine to take home.
